Type of job: Remote
Country: United States
City: Boston, Massachusetts
Company: Virtual Internships

Description of the offer

We are Virtual Internships, an EdTech startup on a mission to bridge the gap between education and the workplace by making internships accessible to all.

Over the last four years, we’ve established partnerships with 12,000+ companies, 100+ universities, and supported thousands of students and graduates in becoming more employable via our online work experience product.

We are a team of 150+ across 25+ countries, and recently secured our Series A funding from investors such as Hambro Perks, Sequoia Capital, Kaplan, Arsenal Growth, and Ascend Vietnam Ventures – who have collectively guided the likes of Google, Linkedin, WhatsApp, Canva, Udemy, and Applyboard.

Our 2022 awards include:

Your Role

We are a start-up that is scaling fast. Therefore, we are not hiring for someone to do repetitive work. We are hiring resilient and multi-faceted problem solvers. To thrive at VI, you will need a ‘growth mindset’ where you embrace the challenge of figuring something out.

The Account Executive will play a key role in identifying, prospecting and contracting with new university partners in the US. We are looking for experienced hunters. You’ll achieve success through an existing knowledge of the US Higher Education space. You understand that relationship building with university stakeholders is crucial. You will execute an effective sales strategy to quickly grow market share and utilise sales tactics to close new partnerships.

This is a mid-to-senior level individual contributor role in our Partnerships team.

Your Impact

In your first month, you will:

  • Get onboarded and brought up to speed with all things VI – our company structure, product, mission, values and tech stack

  • Review our current programs, systems, and data so you can gain insight into where we currently are – and crucially where we need to be

  • Meet with colleagues across the company and start building relationships that will help you better understand the company and your objectives

  • Begin building your own sales pipeline and working with existing leads. As you take ownership of the existing pipeline, you’ll identify the need to get going and get selling

Within 3 months, you will:

  • Have full knowledge of the VI product and how to sell to university partners

  • Have an increasingly healthy pipeline of opportunities – some of which will be close to closing

  • Be comfortable conducting sales calls to prospective buyers and be motivated by executing tactics that move opportunities down the pipeline

  • Likely have attended an industry event to widen your network and knowledge of the sector

Within 6 months, you will:

  • Have closed at least one deal and have several other opportunities close to closing

  • Have full understanding of VI’s position in the US HE market

  • Be comfortable sharing best practice, updates and sector-related content across multiple channels

  • Success as an Account Executive within an early stage start-up, ideally in the EdTech sector.

  • Experience with, and the stamina for, long-cycle sales. You particularly understand how to drive against ambitious timelines and targets while also balancing the needs and realities of individual target client constraints

  • Willingness to work in a fast-paced, evolving early-stage environment. You are comfortable with the ambiguity that comes with a startup environment, and you are excited by the idea of working with a global team across 25+ countries

  • Building relationships should come easy to you – and you’ll love connecting with people

  • Willingness to travel – domestically and possibly internationally as needed. Given the current environment, you also bring an instinct of knowing when meetings should take place virtually versus in person

  • Legally able to work in the US without sponsorship

You stand out from the crowd if:

  • You have a successful track record of selling to US universities and have a solid understanding of the US HE market.

  • You have worked at a Series A or Series B scaleup during a period of rapid growth

Consider this our wish-list. We know there will be great candidates that don’t meet every one of these criteria—if you’re passionate about the role and have early-stage startup experience, we’d still love to hear from you.

Your Attributes:

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Action orientated. Better to make a reversible bad decision than no decision at all

  • Able to work with CRMs, budgets, targets, and KPIs. You are comfortable providing regular progress reports to senior leadership, are motivated by targets and KPIs and you understand the need for reporting compliance

  • Persistent. At Virtual Internships, we “always find a way”

  • Become a brand ambassador with knowledge and understanding of our mission and products – and be able to communicate that to your partners (and the world)

  • Passionate about Education and Career Development for the young generation

What do we offer?

One of our core values at Virtual Internships is transparency. That’s why, we’re giving you the opportunity to ‘try before you apply’ in our “VI-P Guide” which includes our values, how we operate, how we build our packages, and how we interview.

To give you an example of some of our perks and benefits:

  • Flexible Working Hours- start earlier, leave earlier, take a shorter lunch or leave a bit later, it’s totally up to you

  • Remote First work from anywhere, with a budget to support your remote setup

  • Learn from the world’s best- access to exclusive content including how-to guides and playbooks from Sequoia/500Global backed organisations

  • Professional Development Budget- dedicated budget towards content/platforms/courses that can contribute to your professional growth

  • Impact we’re still at an early-stage, so your impact is magnified. You will likely be solving something that hasn’t already been solved or you will be taking something to an entirely new level!

  • Swag- delivered to your door

  • Birthday Leave go enjoy yourself on your birthday without needing to use your annual leave

  • Meritocracy a culture that prides itself on internal promotions and meritocracy. The majority of our managerial team have risen up (quickly), including our COO, CAO, CFO, Head of Host Companies, and Head of Intern Experience
