Undivided is seeking a practiced content editor with deep knowledge of disability for an exciting company that offers the opportunity to directly impact families raising children with disabilities on a large scale.

What we do: Undivided provides an online meeting place for families raising children with disabilities to come together and access the information and resources they need. Each week, we publish articles tackling topics that matter most to our families, including news, resource lists, how-tos, interviews, and more, send out a newsletter to ~4,000 subscribers, and host frequent events and office hours with experts in special education, public benefits, health insurance, advocacy, and more.

The content editor will play a large role in overseeing, reviewing, and editing all content produced by Undivided.

The ideal candidate will have:

• 4+ years of professional developmental or content editing experience, with familiarity with the Chicago Manual of Style.
• Experience working in special education and/or a disability-specific field and/or deep personal knowledge of disability. Can include experience with special education and IEP practices; public benefits such as state-specific Medicaid programs; related medical or therapeutic disciplines; and more.
• Strong written and verbal communication and organization skills.
• Strong critical thinking skills and keen attention to detail.
• Ability to break down complex topics (educational, medical, legal, financial, public benefits, etc.) into plain, relatable language for families.
• Ability to problem-solve, prioritize, and manage multiple projects and deadlines.
• Ability to work remotely yet collaboratively across various teams.
• Experience with or willingness to use tech platforms such as Slack, Google Suite, Monday, YouTube,Zoom, Facebook, etc.
• Culturally humble, mission-driven mindset.

Primary responsibilities will include:

• Oversee all editing of content, which includes long-form articles, instructional guides, resource lists, and research reports on topics of interest to parents of children with disabilities; event messaging, including email campaigns, social strategy, and recaps; weekly newsletters to families and quarterly newsletters to medical/therapy providers; and content programming for website, blog, and event pages.
• Review scope of content produced by freelancers, staff writers, and researchers for accuracy, depth, and appropriateness of focus.
• Write strong headlines and short-form descriptions for SEO optimization across the full range of published content.
• Collaborate with the editorial team on content development and direction.
• Assist with research and scope of long-form articles as needed, including interviewing expert sources, with comfort recording interviews for video clips.
• Assist as needed with formatting and posting content to our online resource library, event pages, and social media.
• Maintain the brand integrity and overall tone of Undivided.

Position details:

• Contract (approximately 20–30 hours a week to start, with a lot of room to grow), with availability Monday-Friday during PST business hours
• $30–$40/hour, dependant on experience
• Location: Remote; must be able to work Pacific Time hours
