Each program has challenged our teams to develop targeted approaches to find, and then support, visionary leaders with a diverse range of experiences, motivations and cultures. We invite you to help build with us–leverage our proven strategies to build strong communities and influence local, regional and global networks, and add your own contribution to our growing team and portfolio of programs.

The Opportunity

SecondMuse seeks a dynamic Thailand-based consultant to continue supporting the growth of SecondMuse’s work on ocean plastic pollution reduction in Thailand. This will be a 9 month contract (starting 1 April 2023 or sooner), with possibility of extension depending on SecondMuse’s future opportunities in Thailand beyond 2023.

The consultant will be deeply connected to the Thai plastic waste management and innovation ecosystem, having experience facilitating business and solution growth with start-ups, ventures and companies either through accelerator and incubator programs (or programs of similar nature) or direct consultation.

We are looking for someone who is comfortable with relationship management, able to operate independently and willing to work with geographically disparate teams and cultural backgrounds. Ideally, the consultant will have a background in environment and sustainability, and is also passionate about the environment and excited by the challenge of supporting more circular and inclusive economies. Experience working with a diverse range of stakeholders across the plastic waste value chain, including government and private sector actors, and in establishing connections between industry stakeholders will be highly valued.

We are aware that our expectations for this role are high. So if you feel you meet most, but not all of the key competencies below, please don’t let this stop you from applying.

Essential Functions

  • Manage and support the implementation of SecondMuse’s program and suite of activities in Thailand, including managing subcontractors for project delivery where necessary
  • Build and maintain a strong network among SecondMuse’s partners and connections in the local plastic waste management and recycling industry and ecosystem, which includes entrepreneurs, SMEs, corporates, non-profit organisations, academia, etc.
  • Lead in identifying, developing and screening new investment and/or collaboration opportunities with ventures and solution providers, including undertaking basic business and financial due-diligence
  • Proactively facilitate communication with key stakeholders as SecondMuse’s local representative on the ground and work closely within a remote team
  • Ensure on-time completion of key deliverables based on agreed timelines, and monitor spending and adherence to project budgets

Requirements

  • Native or full working proficiency in Thai is a must as you will be required to communicate with local stakeholders in Thailand
  • Full working proficiency in English is a must as you will be working closely with the APAC team
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills required to formulate and communicate complex analysis in a clear and concise manner to a variety of stakeholders
  • Experience in capacity-building for startups, SMEs and/or companies across the areas of solution development, strategy, operations, business development, etc.
  • Experience in ecosystem management among, but not limited to, public, private and community actors
  • Outstanding relationship-building and interpersonal skills required to work and build connections with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures, both remotely and in-person
  • Deep practical understanding of working and networking with local stakeholders in Thailand
  • A background and understanding in waste management, circular economy, sustainability and environmental issues will be highly valued
  • Investment experience in the venture capital ecosystem and/or prior entrepreneurial experience is a plus

Work Environment

This is a 9-months contract role based remotely in Bangkok with periodic domestic travel (if required and possible). The consultant will report to the Program Manager, Circularity and will work closely with the APAC team. Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but the consultant’s schedule is expected to follow standard Singapore business hours.

Education and Experience

Experience comes in many different forms. At SecondMuse we are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive community of individuals with a wide range of backgrounds. As guidance, we prefer applicants to have 3-5+ years of experience in consulting with start-ups/companies, project management, and/or within a similar field.

Thank you for your interest in joining our team and taking the time to apply for this position. While we are excited to receive your application, we are unable to respond to every applicant. Hence, only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
