Hugo & Cat are looking for a Lead Front End Developer to join their team to work on modular builds within CMSs and web applications. The ideal candidate will be able to present innovative solutions for our clients to all levels of the business, and work as part of the development team to deliver these to a high standard. This role requires someone who has a good base coding ability as well as a keen eye for incorporating user experience and design systems and a desire to share that with their colleagues.

You will work very closely with server-side developers, UX, design and QA teams to generate elegant solutions to complex challenges and present these back to the client teams.

Responsibilities

  • Alongside the Head of Development, leading the front-end development teams, including helping to define the front-end strategy and direction
  • Recommending new technologies to use within the Hugo & Cat technology stack
  • Continual review of coding best practices and standards
  • Working with client stakeholders to uncover technical solutions
  • Hands on front-end coding (ES6, SASS), producing modular, testable code
  • Solution design involving other agency disciplines including UX & creative designers
  • Website and feature development alongside server-side developers
  • Working with server-side developers to plan the code architecture
  • Breakdown and estimation of tasks in an agile way
  • Assist with the code review process to ensure coding standards are met
  • Assist with development build pipeline
  • Working with QA and testing teams both with general product QA and with automation testing

Requirements

  • We’re looking for a strong mix of development and soft skills, and would expect you to be able to tick most or all of these boxes:
  • Excellent HTML5, JavaScript and CSS3 experience
  • Experience with React or similar (e.g. Inferno, Vue)
  • Experience using HTML templating (e.g, Jade, Handlebars)
  • Experience with automation testing frameworks (e.g Nightwatch, Cypress)
  • Knowledge of component library platforms such as Fractal or Storybook
  • An understanding of responsive design techniques for mobile, tablet and beyond
  • Third party APIs, such as Google Maps integration
  • An appreciation of tooling such as npm, Gulp and Webpack
  • Commercial experience building for CMS sites (we use Sitecore and Umbraco) Design & Business requirements
  • A good eye for design and a real passion for interaction design
  • An excellent ability to communicate your ideas and work with others to make them happen
  • An appreciation of business requirements and usability principles
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Agile development team experience
  • Must be personable, friendly and work well in a team
  • Enthusiastic about the web and emerging web technologies
