THE ROLE

We are looking for an experienced Senior Data Engineer with a solid background in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) to join our Data Engineering team and will be reporting to our Data Engineering Lead. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining our data infrastructure on GCP, ensuring high performance and availability of our data systems to scale at Zoomo. Work with both our Analytics team as well as cross-functional stakeholders to help build our data warehouse and associated ELT. We are putting significant investment into ramping up our data and analytics function, and you will have the opportunity to design and build the core components of this system, which will scale as the company grows.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Designing, developing and maintaining end to end data pipelines
  • Build out API integrations to support continuing increases in data volume and complexity.
  • Collaborate with the data and analytics team to strive for greater functionality in our data systems.
  • Work with cross-functional teams, including Software, Product, Operation and Finance teams by addressing data-related technical issues and supporting their data infrastructure needs.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior data engineers, ensuring a high degree of team performance.
  • Ensure high quality in documentation that can effectively support application management.

Requirements

An experienced data engineer who enjoys optimising data systems and building them from the ground up. You will work alongside our engineers, data analysts and data scientists on data initiatives. You must be self-directed and comfortable supporting the data needs of multiple teams, systems and products, and be excited by the prospect of optimising and/or re-designing our company’s data architecture and applications running on it to support our next generation of products and data initiatives.

  • Experience with designing and implementing complex high throughput distributed batch and/or real time solutions using Dataflow, Composer, Pub/Sub, BigQuery, Cloud Run, App engine, Firestore.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, SQL skills for data analysis and reporting.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with API’s and Webhooks.
  • GCP certification is highly desirable.
  • Experience in deploying cloud infrastructure as code (IaC) using Terraform or similar
  • Working in an Agile development environment

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field
  • 5+ years experience with at least 3+ years of experience in a Data Engineer role, with a focus on data processing and analysis.
  • Proven ability to work independently to meet tight deadline
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple stakeholders and competing deadlines
  • Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases, query authoring (SQL) as well as working familiarity with a variety of databases
  • Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Strong project management and organizational supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment
