Smart Wires is currently looking for a Senior Project Manager to support our Project Delivery team in the United Kingdom.

The Position

We are looking for a Senior Project Manager to work closely with our utility customer stakeholders and various internal Smart Wires stakeholders to efficiently and effectively deploy Smart Wires technology in major utilities’ substations.

In this role, you will be accountable for the delivery of multi-million-euro projects within scope, on budget, and on time. You must have a remarkable blend of relationship management, planning, execution, and organizational skills to achieve outstanding results for our customers. A vital part of the role is delivering the requirements as per the customer expectations. Key to the role is to identify project risks and issues, assessing and recognising criticalities and contingencies. As Senior Project Manager will need to be focused on targets and requirements, with an ability to be adaptable to meet changing business environments.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple large and complex projects simultaneously while developing and maintaining good relationships with a variety of key stakeholders.
  • Deliver the projects to the required quality and success criteria as defined in the project contract.
  • Analyse problems, actions, and progress issues as appropriate, ensuring follow through to resolution.
  • Manage 3rd parties, acting as a routine contact point between organisation and supplier.
  • Provide timely and accurate status updates to key Smart Wires management and stakeholders in support of project governance.
  • Serve as our internal lead and our customers’ primary point of contact throughout the following project phases: initiation; planning; engineering, procurement, factory acceptance testing, shipping, construction, installation, commissioning, and project closure.
  • Review contract conditions and ensure compliance with all contract terms.
  • Document all significant project events, such as accidents, delays, and change orders.
  • Estimate budgets and contract prices, track spending against budgets, and deliver projects on budget.
  • Negotiate cost-effective subcontract and material purchases.
  • Manage efficient and effective use of contract resources for a variety of works.
  • Keep projects on schedule and deliver projects on time.
  • Negotiate, prepare, and issue subcontract bid packages.
  • Help identify, prioritize, and execute process improvements.
  • Travel to customer sites across Europe, as necessary.
  • Ensure safety and quality plans and procedures are in place and implemented.
  • Support business development and other activities as assigned.

Requirements

  • Demonstrable experience of having managed and delivered projects successfully from end to end, with a proven track record for delivering work safely, on time and within budget.
  • Possess remarkably strong communication and organizational skills
  • Experience of managing complex projects in a complex environment, potentially including applying remedial measures to project delivery.
  • Experience of the development of counter-measures and contingency plans associated with significant project risk.
  • Experience of relevant project change control mechanisms, including the transition process into operations and acceptance criteria
  • Demonstrable ability to identify and manage key stakeholders.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Degree (or equivalent experience) in engineering, project management, or construction management.
  • Civil or Electrical engineering experience and/or education is preferred.
  • 5-10 years of utility substation deployment experience.
  • 5-10 years of relevant project management experience and a thorough understanding of all project management control systems (scheduling, cost control, procurement and estimating).
  • Fundamental knowledge of contract law and project accounting.
  • Possess a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent
  • Proficient in two or more European languages
  • Are passionate about managing large utility and/or EPC projects
  • Energy utility experience
  • Are proactive and resourceful
  • Remain calm in high stress environments
  • Problem solve independently and synthesize information from various sources
  • Work efficiently and comfortably handle multiple projects and tasks concurrently by effectively managing internal interactions and competing priorities
  • Understand the value of learning from coworkers and supervisors that are committed to rapid professional development
  • Are determined to make a positive, long-lasting impact on climate change

Outstanding customer relationship skills and a commitment to providing a high-level service is essential coupled with an ability to liaise comfortably with key stakeholders at all levels, both internal and external.

Location

This is a remote based position with a strong preference for candidates located in the UK.

Travel

The candidate can work remotely but will be required to travel to the office and customer sites periodically. As the roles involves supporting project delivery across Europe, the candidate may be required to travel within Europe.

This includes adherence to all state and local regulations. Additional safety precautions may include the use of PPE gear as needed per site requirements.
