Are you an experienced Game Systems Engineer who enjoys collaborating with engineers and would like to work on the engine that powers one of the industry’s largest and most successful MMOs?

Working as part of a passionate and cross-disciplinary agile game team, you will be integral to the development and delivery of the Old School RuneScape product roadmap. You’ll be working closely with our game developers on the game roadmap and larger initiatives like bringing the game to new platforms and audiences.

We’re looking for enthusiastic and passionate developers with an attitude to learn, collaborate, aspire, continuously improve, and thoroughly enjoy what they do on a highly successful MMO. You will have a huge impact, not just on our engineering teams but the huge communities of Old School RuneScape players all over the world!

What you’ll be doing:

• Programming using Java (and other languages where appropriate), defining tasks & utilising your programming knowledge and experience to complete assigned tasks and scheduled requests

• Working closely with other development teams to evolve the current game server and client architecture powering Old School RuneScape

• Building strong working relationships with team members both in the engine, server, infrastructure and content development groups
• Defining and developing client-server architecture, taking ownership of significant feature areas within the game server
• Researching, innovating, and developing new game engine technology
• Taking a proactive approach to finding ways to make our technology more effective
• Contributing to overall project strategy.  Be willing to put forward ideas, and to positively critique those put forward by others, encouraging and partaking in effective collaboration
• Work with Junior team members to expand their skills, focus on training needs and help them to develop in their roles

What we’re looking for:

• Extremely proficient with Java (C# considered)

• Experience working on backend systems as a software developer

• Experience working in at least one public cloud provider (AWS preferred)

• Experience in designing and shipping 3rd party APIs

• A passion for innovating solutions and solving problems in a unique technology stack

• Ability to work well in a team and with others, good communication skills are essential

• Relevant qualification at degree level or equivalent experience.
