Key Responsibilities:
  • Researching and writing articles of various types – including our feature thematic, Q&A, analysis and webinar/panel coverage articles – based on extensive interviews of and other interactions with industry experts. Articles typically address developments in the field (i.e., regulation, laws, breaches, settlements, guidelines, etc.), best practices for the industry and other topics relevant to our subscribers;
  • Expectation of submitting approximately two in-depth articles per month;
  • Identifying article topics, themes, trends and ideas that are central to the day-to-day business practices of our subscribers – primarily through engagement with sources and secondarily through reading, viewing webinars and other information gathering;
  • Editing articles (separate rate) for publication, including articles submitted by outside contributors;
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with key industry participants with the goals of: understanding the “pain points” experienced by practitioners (particularly CPOs, CISOs, GCs and CCOs), cultivating sources for articles, and gathering industry intelligence.

 

Required Skills, Qualifications and Experience:
  • Strong command of privacy and cybersecurity laws and regulations, evidenced by at least three years of paid, long-form (i.e., 3,000+ word) reporting experience dealing with related issues;
  • Juris Doctor or equivalent law degree preferred, but not required;
  • Excellent reporting, writing, research, organizational and analytical abilities, with a demonstrated capacity to consistently create engaging, thorough, sophisticated articles under deadline that require minimal editing;
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; and
  • Excellent proofreading skills.

 

Salary Range: 
The estimated rate is $750 to $1000 per article, depending on experience and type of article.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct customer support to the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), promptly responding to inquiries and ensuring a high level of service.
  • Conduct and support assessments for Authority to Operate (ATO) to ensure systems comply with CMS’s Acceptable Risk Safeguards (ARS) and regulatory requirements.
  • Apply your expertise in the NIST SP 800-53 framework to execute and enhance security, disaster recovery, and incident management plans.
  • Act as a key liaison between CMS security contacts and Cybersecurity leadership, analyzing and ensuring adherence to stringent security guidelines.
  • Evaluate and analyze the security posture and potential vulnerabilities within cloud architectures, recommending actionable improvements.
  • Update, review, and maintain critical technical security documentation, including system security plans, incident response plans, and contingency plans, ensuring they meet the highest standards.
  • Collaborate with the Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) team to investigate suspected security incidents and fulfill customer notifications in compliance with contractual obligations.
  • This role may require travel approximately 10% up to 20% of the time.

Required Qualifications/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field with a minimum of 4 + years of experience in cybersecurity, or at least 6 years of relevant work experience in cybersecurity in lieu of a degree.
  • A minimum 1 to 2 years of direct support experience with the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), providing expert guidance and customer service.
  • In-depth knowledge of CMS Security Policy Documentation, including but not limited to POA&Ms, SOPs, Contingency Plans, and System Security Plans (SSPs).
  • Exceptional time management skills, with the ability to efficiently manage multiple processes simultaneously while maintaining a high standard of quality.
  • Must be able to effectively prioritize tasks and demonstrate self-motivation, especially when working remotely.
  • Proficiency with Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) tools such as Alert Logic, with the ability to interpret data and generate concise reports for management.
  • Experience with tools such as ZenGRC, Varonis, and Zscaler is a plus.

· Participate in retention activities such as but not limited to calling, emailing and special events for students;

· Advise students on academic issues and record advisement in writing and/or in the campus’ data base as required by policy;

· Maintain scheduled “office hours” to be available to students for coaching and tutoring;

· Assist with problem solving for student issues

 

Mentor Responsibilities:

· Serve as mentor to students;

· Foster a Slack community of student support through regular monitoring and timely engagement;

· Maintain a thorough knowledge of the curriculum content;

· Adhere to Southern Careers Institute’s professional development standards;

· Conduct weekly one-on-one meetings with assigned students in a professional and instructive environment;

· Counsel students on the importance of attendance, contact students who have missed a class, and document all attendance related matters;

· Motivate students in a way that makes them enjoy the material being studied;

· Advise students on issues and record advisements in writing;

· Responsible for student outcomes such as persistence rates, pass rates, and completion rates

 

Requirements

· Demonstrate competency in the Cyber Security field, such as academic or vocational training and credentials, related work experience, licensure, or certification;

· At least 1 year of experience teaching in post-secondary education in the assigned teaching field is highly preferred.

· Technical expertise: A Cyber Security Instructor should have a strong understanding of cybersecurity concepts, technologies, and best practices, as well as the ability to apply this knowledge in real-world situations.

· Instructional design and delivery skills: A Cyber Security Instructor should be able to design and deliver engaging and effective training programs that meet the needs of their students. This may include creating course materials, developing hands-on exercises and activities, and using a variety of teaching techniques to ensure that students learn effectively.

· Communication and interpersonal skills: A Cyber Security Instructor should be able to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to a variety of audiences, including students with varying levels of knowledge and experience. They should also be able to build rapport with students, provide constructive feedback, and create a positive and supportive learning environment.

· Time management and organizational skills: A Cyber Security Instructor should be able to manage their time effectively and prioritize tasks in order to meet deadlines and deliver high-quality training programs. They should also be able to maintain accurate and organized records of student progress and assessments.

· Continuous learning and professional development: A Cyber Security Instructor should be committed to ongoing learning and professional development in order to stay current with industry trends and best practices in cybersecurity. This may include participating in professional development workshops, attending conferences, and obtaining additional certifications.

Certifications:

· CompTIA Security +, Network +, Linux +

· Additional CompTIA certifications are highly desirable

Computer Skills:

· Networking and communication protocols: TCP/IP, HTTP, HTTPS, FTP, SSH, etc.

· Operating systems: Windows, Linux, macOS, etc.

· Virtualization software: VMware, VirtualBox, Hyper-V, etc.

· Security tools: Firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention systems, antivirus software, etc.

· Network monitoring and analysis tools: Wireshark, tcpdump, nmap, etc.

· Vulnerability scanning and assessment tools: Nessus, OpenVAS, Burp Suite, etc.

· Cybersecurity frameworks and best practices: ISO 27001, NIST Cybersecurity Framework, COBIT, etc.
