The Linux System Group (LSG) inside Core OS is responsible for providing high quality Linux platforms to power services and devices across Cloud, Edge and Client. The group plays a leadership role in Azure by driving Linux and open-source solutions, technologies and strategy. Additionally, LSG is heavily invested in its people and their professional development, offering a myriad of opportunities.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

o OR equivalent experience.

4+ years of engineering experience in Linux kernel and/or hypervisor, design and development and the ability to work independently and proactively with analytic and debugging skills.

 

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
    •  Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

• Significant engineering experience in any of the following: platform security, hypervisor development, secure boot, embedded systems.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with external entities (open-source communities, standards bodies, customers and/or partners). Upstream Linux kernel contributions are a plus.
• Knowledge in C, Python and one of the modern programming languages like Rust will be a boost

 

Software Engineering IC4 – The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 – $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 – $250,200 per year.

Responsibilities

• Design and code Linux kernel solutions in strategic areas for Microsoft.
• Coordinate design and coding across multiple live projects, and partner with independent teams in disparate geographic locations.
• Work with the upstream community to develop and support next-generation Linux OS technologies in strategic areas for Microsoft.
• Ensures architecture design is appropriately authored, documented, and reviewed.
• Maintain operations of live service as issues arise on a rotational, on-call basis.
