As the lead User Communications and Content Strategist on the Communications Team, you will primarily be responsible for Reddit’s most visible user-facing communication channel, r/reddit. You’ll help lead the editorial vision for the stories we’ll share with users over the course of each week, month, and year. You’ll work with stakeholders from every team across Reddit to help organize and elevate the stories, announcements, and news we want/need to share with users, and make sure we’re communicating authentically, transparently, and with a consistent tone and voice.

You’ll also collaborate and co-author with others on the Communications team to ensure consistency in voice and tone for posts on Reddit’s corporate blog (redditinc.com/blog).

What You’ll Do

 

• Create
  • Develop and manage the r/reddit editorial calendar
  • Write and edit copy, and co-author relevant content and posts with cross-functional partners across Reddit
  • Ideate on creative strategy, and manage feedback from stakeholders
  • Partner with members of the Communications team to:
    • Explore ways to incorporate and highlight user stories into r/reddit’s editorial strategy, bringing more humanity to the subreddit
    • Ensure posts on Reddit’s corporate blog, with a key audience of press/reporters, align with r/reddit in terms of content, clarity, tone, and voice
• Grow
  • Manage and evolve r/reddit’s community voice and style guide
  • Liaise with other owned-and-operated Reddit surfaces to develop ways to further amplify r/reddit content (for example, working with our social media team to explore opportunities to use Reddit Inc.’s social channels to disseminate information and encourage user growth
  • Work with cross-functional partners to manage and execute a member growth strategy for r/reddit
• Collaborate
  • Work with cross-functional teams at Reddit, including Community, Communications (including Social Media), Product, Product Marketing (go-to-market), among others
  • Partner with our Corporate Communications team to find opportunities to share company news on r/reddit, where appropriate
  • Connect and co-author with other Reddit owned-and-operated community leads, like r/redditsecurity, to ensure we’re reaching the right people with the right message(s)
  • Engage with with Community Moderators to ensure successful posts and discussions
• Manage
  • Serve as the sherpa of r/reddit and coordinate ‘post parties’ (where XFN partners come together at posting time to monitor and respond to user comments and threads)
  • Monitor, develop and share out on-platform (mainly r/reddit) sentiment reporting, and incorporate these findings to improve and evolve content strategy for r/reddit

Who You Might Have Or Be

 

• 5-8+ years relevant experience developing and leading editorial and content strategy for online communities
• Professional experience in Communications, Journalism, or Content Strategy
• Passionate about storytelling and building/fostering community through content
• Proven success in leading large editorial projects in a highly cross-functional environment
• Excellent writing, communication, and editing skills – equally comfortable authoring original content, ghost-writing, or workshopping posts to help maximize impact for readers
• A problem solver, that can distill complex, sometimes technical information, into easy-to-understand language for the average internet user
• An ally and resolution builder; can understand the goals of everyone in the room and find a path forward that isn’t just acceptable, but satisfying and meets goals
• Deep knowledge of Reddit’s community culture, user trends, and behaviors
• A Reddit-y sense of humor and ability to have entire conversations in GIFs and/or memes

This role can be based out of our San Francisco, Los Angeles or New York City offices, and will primarily collaborate with US-based teams in the pacific time zone.

Pay Transparency

This job posting may span more than one career level.

In addition to base salary, this job is eligible to receive equity in the form of restricted stock units, and depending on the position offered, it may also be eligible to receive a commission. To provide greater transparency to candidates, we share base pay ranges for all US-based job postings regardless of state. We set standard base pay ranges for all roles based on function, level, and country location, benchmarked against similar stage growth companies. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including, skills, depth of work experience and relevant licenses/credentials, and may vary from the amounts listed below.

The Base Pay Range For This Position Is

$145,700—$218,600 USD
